The JISIASR campus is situated adjacent to the Kona Express Highway, near Santragachi railway station. It is around 30 minutes away by car from the Esplanade metro station, the heart of Kolkata, and approximately 90 minutes drive from the Kolkata airport (Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, CCU). The Howrah Railway Station is about 5 kms away from the Institute. It takes only 10 minutes by car to reach the institute from the Second Hooghly Bridge.

Kolkata (formerly known as Calcutta) is the capital of the state West Bengal, India. Founded as an East India Company trading post, it was India's capital under the British Raj from 1773–1911. Today it is well known for its grand colonial architecture, art galleries, and cultural festivals. Kolkata is known for Rabindranath Tagore, Swami Vivekananda, Shri Ramkrishna, Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose, Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray, Satyendra Nath Bose, Satyajit Ray, and many other famous personalities. The city has a deep connection with the Nobel Prize, with at least five winners having links-by birth or work-with the city. There are several visiting places in Kolkata like Victoria Memorial, Birla Mandir, Dakshineswar Kali Temple, Zoological Garden, Birla Planetarium, Belur Math, etc.
Howrah is located on the western bank of the Hooghly River, opposite its twin city of Kolkata. It is a 20-minute taxi ride from the center of Kolkata. Howrah is connected to the famous Grand Trunk Road (GT Road), one of South Asia's oldest and longest major roads. The city also hosts the “Great Banyan Tree,” estimated to be more than 250 years old, at Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden. The tree alone occupies an area of 4.67 acres.
